Gil Ben-Shlomo obtained his DVM and PhD degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. He successfully completed a comparative ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and subsequently obtained his board certification and a Diplomate status in the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
Since 2010 Gil has been on the faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University. He teaches veterinary and graduate students and trains residents in the field of veterinary ophthalmology. Dr. Ben-Shlomo is an associate editor and author of Gelatt’s Veterinary Ophthalmology (6th edition), the most comprehensive book in the field, and an editorial board member of the journal of Veterinary Ophthalmology. Dr. Ben-Shlomo is the President Elect of the International Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology.
